Diving into an Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have encountered numerous interesting creations from small studios. Yet, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game lets you play a character that is truly a piece of poop striving to travel to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."

Player controls is simple: just use a one button to leap. In numerous challenges, you'll face tough enemies and unlock a store to buy outfits for your dung hero.

Plan your jumps carefully, since one mistake forces starting over. Bounce off bubbles to propel yourself to new heights, traverse crumbling surfaces, and interact with triggers to unlock secret routes. Earn currency for buying more difficult stages where the action ramps up.

Graphically, the demo shows off neon environments and catchy background music. Its minimalist art of morphing geometric shapes may remind players of classic titles like Earthbound.

Even though difficult to think of previous releases where you are a coiled turd, interactive entertainment often featured scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players make grenades from character waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as soil enrichment. Naturally, this theme shows up extensively in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already earned notable recognition, including being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is ready at present on Steam, with the final release scheduled to arrive on PC on November 19.
