Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson disclosed he narrowly avoided a life-threatening incident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two marshals darted across the track directly in front of him

The alarming incident took place on the third rotation when safety workers were spotted on the racing surface as Lawson was getting back on the race following an early pitstop to swap his compromised front wing

Racer's Instant Response

Moments later, the team's competitor Lawson spoke to his team engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Could you believe what happened? I could have... killed them"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was seeing"

"I came out on a new set of hards, and then I approached Turn One and suddenly there were two individuals running across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, frankly, it was so dangerous"

Track Safety Questioned

"Clearly there's been a failure in communication somewhere but I've never experienced that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a live track safety personnel can be allowed to just dash across the track like that. I don't understand the reason, I'm certain we'll get some kind of clarification, but this absolutely cannot recur"

Official Investigation Underway

Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, is actively examining the events

"After an occurrence at turn one, the race directors was advised that debris was present on the track at the apex of that corner" declared the regulatory authority

"On lap three, safety personnel were informed and placed on standby to go onto the racing surface and clear the fragments once the entire field had cleared the area"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had entered the pits, the directives to deploy marshals were canceled and a caution signal was raised in that zone"

"Our inquiry continues what occurred subsequent to that time"
